Game4Padel, the UK’s only national padel operator, has added four pickleball courts to its padel site at Edinburgh Park.

Pickleball is a new racket sport, played with a small racket and combining elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. It has gained most popularity in the US where it is estimated over 36 million people play.

The new pickleball courts opened at the beginning of October, and sit alongside the two covered padel courts that Game4Padel operate on behalf of Parabola, the business park owner. Game4Padel have been operating the padel courts at Edinburgh Park since 2022, as well as other padel facilities nearby at the Thistle Padel Club and Barnton Park Lawn Tennis Club and have developed a thriving padel community in Edinburgh.  

Although there are other pickleball courts in Scotland, these courts at Edinburgh Park are believed to be the first purpose built pickleball courts. Pickleball is often played on tennis courts or indoors in village halls and large interior spaces.  

Commenting on the new courts, Game4Padel CEO Michael Gradon said: “Our Edinburgh Park site is really busy – it is well situated for anyone using the tram network and we benefit from businesses that have offices here. We wanted to offer more activities for people in the local area and as pickleball is another one of the world’s fastest growing sports, we felt it would be a popular addition. We’ve added pickleball to some of our other sites in the UK and the take up is good. We’re looking forward to developing a whole new community of pickleball players in the Edinburgh area”.

Parabola's Community and Marketing Manager, Lindsay Defesche, expressed delight in adding pickleball, an exciting and fresh wellness activity, to the first phase of development at Edinburgh Park. “This new offering will provide a great recreational option for workers at Edinburgh Park as well as residents of the surrounding area.”
