The Saturday poetry event was an opportunity to launch edition three of Polaris, hear readings from the poet’s other works and their poems in ‘Planting Amaryllis’.
In the warm, bright and modern auditorium at 1 New Park Square, the group gathered to listen. Poetry captured reflections from childhood, imaginings of mythical stories, messages of resilience and heartfelt emotions.
Each guest was welcomed with their own copy of the zine, along with a packet of wildflower seeds emblazoned with lines of poetry from the zine.
Parabola, the organisers, are striving to build a new community in the west of Edinburgh. The masterplan for the site includes office accommodation, private and affordable housing, sports facilities, an award-winning bakery and spaces to enjoy the outdoors with art and sculpture built into the fabric.
David White, editor of Artmag, who attended said: It was a bold move on the part of Edinburgh Park…to put poetry, art and sculpture at the centre of its plan to evolve way beyond an out-of-town office development… Understanding why poetry belongs in the plan for a large development, is to understand why art belongs everywhere in our lives.
